False Positives and Negatives in EIA Construction Status Data

Our recent review of proposed power plant project data indicates ongoing inconsistencies in EIA status coding. Notably, there are instances where construction is evident despite a non-construction status (false negatives) and vice versa (false positives).

We have identified a total of 3.4 GW of false negative and 5.7 GW of false positive data in our database. Additionally, 78 plants totaling 25 GW scheduled to come online by 2025 currently show no construction activity and are likely to be delayed beyond this timeframe.
