Expanding Coverage: Qatar North Field East LNG Project

The Vulcan platform extends beyond the U.S. power market, encompassing global energy infrastructure. We've previously highlighted our monitoring of proposed LNG plants in the U.S. and Mexico. At our clients' request, we're now including the Qatar North Field East (NFE) LNG project in our coverage. We encourage client input to identify critical infrastructure for monitoring, offering both individual client requests and a crowdsourcing option to optimize costs for all.

The Qatar North Field East (NFE) LNG project represents a significant expansion of Qatar's liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity, solidifying the nation's position as a global leader in the LNG market. This project leverages the North Field, the world's largest non-associated natural gas field, shared with Iran.

With the development of the NFE project, QatarEnergy expects to increase Qatar's LNG production capacity by 43%, from 77 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 110 mtpa. QatarEnergy announced the expansion in April 2017. Vulcan observed the first land clearing activity in May 2022 and the first structural developments in February 2023. With first gas anticipated in 2025, our satellite imagery indicates the LNG project is progressing well towards its objectives of exports in 2026.

Qatar North Field LNG, Phase 1: Trains 1-2 Expected 2026, Trains 3-4 2027 per reports.
