Save Agent Credits for Pipeline Notices

Written by A. Marc Passy | May 22, 2026 6:51:49 AM

Many of the highest-credit Hyperion sessions were those that were scraping pipeline notices directly.  To reduce your credit costs, we are making those notices available in a datalink, so that all you need to do is query it from us, a much cheaper operation.  So, we are releasing our pipeline notices dataset (hdl.recent_pipeline_notices), now available through the agent and the V4 API. This dataset provides an analysis-ready feed of operational notices — force majeure events, operational flow orders, maintenance windows, and capacity constraints — across approximately 150 U.S. interstate natural gas pipelines. It replaces the need to monitor individual operator websites and consolidates all critical pipeline events into a single, queryable table.  You should build new sessions that use the new data - existing sessions that use old scrape-first methods could be directed to the new tables, but these changes are not reliable.

What's in the new Pipeline Notices Data

Full documentation is available by asking the agent, or in our dataset guide. but in summary:

Each row represents a single notice posting - including updates/ changes - from a pipeline operator. Key fields include:

Pipeline identification - pipeline_name, full_pipeline_name, and smx_tsp_id (pipeline identifier, joinable to hdl.pipeline_flow for flow impact analysis)

Notice classification - notice_type (normalized categories, see below), raw_notice_type (original pipeline text) and critical_notice_indicator (Y/N flag for high-priority events)

Timing - notice_effective_datetime, notice_end_datetime, and posting_dt give you the full lifecycle of each event

Supersession tracking - prior_notice_identifier links updated notices to their predecessors, so you can follow the evolution of an ongoing event. Note this is only as reliable as the pipeline's posting - it's from them - so reliability is not assured.

Every notice is classified into one of the following normalized types, while still making the pipeline's notice

Category Description
Critical Notice High-priority operational alerts flagged by the pipeline as critical
Maintenance Planned or unplanned maintenance affecting capacity or operations
Operational Alert General operational updates — pressure changes, flow restrictions, system advisories
Capacity Constraint Reduced available capacity at specific points or segments
Storage Notice Injection/withdrawal advisories, storage field operational updates
OFO Operational Flow Orders requiring shippers to balance or curtail
Force Majeure Unforeseeable events (weather, equipment failure) suspending normal obligations
Scheduling Alert Changes to nomination cycles, scheduling timelines, or cut deadlines

How to use it

The easiest way to work with pipeline notices is through the SynMax Agent. Just ask in natural language:

  • "Show me all active force majeure notices"

  • "Are there any critical notices on Transco right now?"

  • "What maintenance events are scheduled on Permian takeaway pipelines this month?"

  • "Build me a dashboard that monitors critical pipeline notices and their flow impact"

  •  "How have notices on El Paso Natural Gas trended over the past 90 days?"

The agent will query the data, join it to pipeline flows when relevant, and visualize the results — no code required.

You should build new sessions that use the new data - Existing sessions will continue to the old scrape-first methods.  It is possible to guide the agent to use the new data in an old session, but it might revert unexpectedly.

Direct API access

For programmatic access, the dataset is available via the SynMax v4 API:

curl -X POST "https://hyperion.api.synmax.com/v4/query_datalink" \
-H "Access-Key: $SYNMAX_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"query": "SELECT pipeline_name, notice_type, critical_notice_description, notice_effective_datetime, notice_end_datetime FROM hdl.recent_pipeline_notices WHERE critical_notice_indicator = \'"'"'Y\'"'"' AND notice_end_datetime >= NOW() ORDER BY posting_dt DESC"
}'

or via python:

from synmax.hyperion.v4 import HyperionApiClient

client = HyperionApiClient(access_token="YOUR_API_TOKEN")
notices = client.query_datalink(
    query="""
        SELECT pipeline_name, notice_type, critical_notice_description,
               notice_effective_datetime, notice_end_datetime
        FROM hdl.recent_pipeline_notices
        WHERE critical_notice_indicator = 'Y'
          AND notice_end_datetime >= NOW()
        ORDER BY posting_dt DESC
    """
)
df = notices.df()

Because it shares the smx_tsp_id key with hdl.pipeline_flow and hdl.pipeline_locations, you can join notices directly to flow data to quantify the impact of an event on scheduled volumes or capacity utilization.

 Coverage/Frequency

The dataset currently covers ~150 pipelines (detailed below) sourced through our automated ingestion system, scraped at approximately 1/hour frequency (we can scrape some more frequently - please reach out if there are any that you'd like to see at a higher frequency). An additional ~35 smaller pipelines (primarily intrastate pipelines and storage operators) are covered through direct scraping via agent scraping, which will be automatically pulled in if you ask for a pipeline not in the database.  We do intend to eventually add all of these pipelines into the datalink, so any sessions that are started from now on will make the swap automatically if they are added to the db.

Getting Started

The dataset is live now in alongside the existing pipeline flow and location tables. If you have questions or want help building a monitoring dashboard, reach out — we're happy to walk through the data.  As usual, contact support@synmax.com with questions.
