Oklahoma Natural Gas Production

Natural gas production in Oklahoma as measured by the daily pipeline scrape data is up significantly year-to-date in 2025. 2025 year-to-date it is up 8.3% year-on-year.  The question is whether this is sustained or a temporary volatility?

Natural gas based frac crews in Oklahoma have also been on an overall uptrend since the beginning of 2024, contributing to the natural gas production increase.

Ever since Continental Resources went private in Q4 2022, public producer guidance for Oklahoma natural gas production has been nearly non-existent. However, in their latest Q2 2025 analyst conference call, Coterra Energy did provide some color for production and efficiency gains in Oklahoma from their Anadarko basin plays:

“Blake Sirgo, Senior Vice President Operations:

Our Anadarko program continues to bring in strong results, with the Roberts pad coming online in Q2 with stellar results. This nine-well project achieved a 30-day equivalent IP of 173 million cubic feet per day. This productivity, paired with strong NGL yields, makes this one of the best gas projects in our portfolio.

We continue to gain efficiencies in our Anadarko program, with our first 3-mile project coming online later this year, with an impressive all-in cost of $923 per foot. Our Anadarko team is laser focused on driving capital efficiency and extending our laterals across the asset.”

While 3-mile lateral wells exist in Oklahoma, they are much less common in the subregion as compared to the Permian basin. Should 3-mile lateral wells become much more prominent in Oklahoma, the state could see a significant increase in natural gas production over the coming years.
