China's Divergence from US LNG
NG Daily Production Increase Analysis
U.S. dry gas production softened from a mid-August peak of 113.28 Bcf/d (08/16) to a low of 111.08 Bcf/d on August 25, then partially recovered to 112.08 Bcf/d by September 9: a 1 Bcf/d rebound. The recovery remains infrastructure-driven, with three subregions accounting for the bulk of the increase:
- West TX, +0.830 Bcf/d - Whistler to TGP restored, EPNG/Transwestern cleared.
- Haynesville LA, +0.456 Bcf/d - Gulf South, Midcon Express maintenance completed.
- Permian NM, +0.419 Bcf/d - EPNG, Transwestern OFOs and capacity constraints lifted.
Hugh Brinson & Blackcomb
Energy Transfer's Hugh Brinson Pipeline Phase 1 entered commercial service in Q3 2026, per ET's Q2 2026 earnings call. The 400-mile, 42-inch pipeline has a Phase 1 capacity of 1.5 Bcf/d. ET stated full Phase 1 capacity would be available by September 1, 2026, with shipper contracts coming online in stages. Hugh Brinson connects to ET's system downstream, and Houston Pipeline has seen outflows to interstate pipelines increase 15% (0.2 bcf/d) since the end of August.
Pipeline flow evidence: Hugh Brinson connects to ET's system downstream, and Houston Pipeline has seen outflows to interstate pipelines increase 15% (0.2 bcf/d) since the end of August.
Blackcomb Pipeline (WhiteWater/MPLX/Enbridge JV) was pushed to Q4 2026 commissioning per ET's Q4 2025 call.
Whistler Pipeline showed the largest increase: +0.198 Bcf/d, driven primarily by the TGP Nueces interconnect (+0.137 Bcf/d).

Haynesville
Haynesville witnessed significant drops in notices and significant increases in completed maintenance. Gulf South (19 notices resolved) and SONAT (20 notices) completed maintenance, allowing for a +0.42 Bcf/d Haynesville LA production increase.
Overall Drop in Notices by Type
The overall increase in Lower 48 production from August 25 through September 9 is predominantly driven by the significant drop in pipeline notices.
